Thien Kee Steamboat Restaurant. Hainanese Chicken Rice

Our late chicken rice lunch at Thien Kee Steamboat Restaurant 黃金瑞記煖爐, at Golden Mile Tower, #B1-20, 6001 Beach Road.

Hainanese Chicken @ $10. The waitress asked whether we wanted a half chicken ($16) or a $10 platter. Thinking that we should add on other side dishes, we opted for the platter. Nice but i miss the chicken rice stall opposite Golden Miles Tower. Oops.

Fu Rong Egg Omelette @ $10. We ordered this without asking the price. Usually it costs around $6-$8. Hence we are a little shocked at the price. Nice, but there's nothing in the omelette that is worth the amount.

Chicken kidney & liver @ $3. I don't really like eating chicken liver. The soft texture is not really my preference.

The total bill came up to $27.90, includes 3 chicken rice and 2 drinks. We returned the wet tissues. Hee.. Save some money.

One little hiccup. A strand of my hair landed on my rice and the waitress was serving the drinks. She highlighted to me that I have hair on my rice. And she won't put down the drinks until I acknowledge the hair and not complain to them about it. Haha but it is obviously my hair, why would I complain about it? Maybe they kenna before? Weird.

Counting Stars - OneRepublic

Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars, yeah we'll be counting stars

I see this life like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
And my face is flashing signs
Seek it out and you shall find
Old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told
I feel something so right
Doing the wrong thing
I feel something so wrong
Doing the right thing
I could lie, coudn't I, could lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars

Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be, we'll be counting stars

I feel the love and I feel it burn
Down this river, every turn
Hope is a four-letter word
Make that money, watch it burn
Old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told
I feel something so wrong
Doing the right thing
I could lie, could lie, could lie
Everything that drowns me makes me wanna fly

Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars

Lately, I've been, I've been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby, I've been, I've been praying hard,
Said, no more counting dollars
We'll be, we'll be counting stars

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money
Watch it burn
Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Take that money

Sink in the river
The lessons are learnt

Everything that kills me makes feel alive

I Forgot My Phone

There's more to life than just your mobile phone. Everywhere we go, we see people facing downwards to their phones. We call them, 低头族, which literally means, bow head group. We look at our phones while walking on the street, crossing the road, standing on a crowded train, seated down at dinner, and so on. Anytime, anywhere. Here's a video that is circulating around in Facebook.

This is pretty sad. I always nag the hubby to put away his phone for the short while as we have our meals. At least, let's enjoy our meal together, in each other's company instead of whoever that is in the phone.

The first comment made me feel guilty. I'm also one of the 10% who saw the video on my mobile, seated on the sofa, in front of the TV. (But I'm blogging this post on my PC haha)

Put away your phone for a while, while you catch up with your loved ones. I have to change too. I am always busy posting on my social media platforms, like checking in on Foursquare and posting my meal's photo on Instagram. Let's all change together. Haha... Treasure our time with our loved ones.

A photo a day : Dinner

Homecook simple fare for dinner. It's more like side dishes though.

East Coast Park

A lazy Sunday afternoon at East Coast Park, cycling. It was raining earlier on, and luckily, it was not when we were there. The trees along the pathway gave us shade from the sun and it was cooling to ride under these big umbrellas. I like the feeling.

Doesn't the benches look lonely?
Love the view of the trees. The trees made my journey cooling.
The sun is setting. The sea at peace.
Bicycle renting is not cheap, in long term. Maybe we should bring our own.
People fishing at Bedok Jetty. The entire stretch are populated by them.

Weekend : KSL City Mall

A one day holiday trip to our neighbour with the hubby and fil. I suggested going to KSL City Mall as the place is pretty new and both of them had not been here before. Initially, the idea was to take a cab from the immigration. But we took a gamble and headed for the bus interchange. We were on board bus IM17 in 5 minutes. It costs RM1.50 per person. Cheaper than taking a cab.

I wanted to rebond my hair as the mane is getting more and more difficult to manage. Haha I look a mess even after trying hard to tame it. It took me 4 hours in the salon. My tummy is growling from hunger. I should have planned my lunch before sitting here for this long. All this while, the hubby and fil shopped, massaged and lunched. This is the reason why I am scared to do anything about my hair. It takes way too long and I'm bored stiff sitting here.

I did my hair at RCS Hair Studio. Rebond for my hair length at RM 240 (includes cut and wash). The stylist cut away all my existing rebonded hair, so he only worked only virgin hair. My hair length came up to a little below my shoulders. Pretty short, at least 3 inches gone.

I also asked to do treatment for my dry, damaged hair. RM 150. Kérastase from Loreal. The stylist recommended the green with orange combination. Green bottle for the "cement" to close up the pores of the hair, as the heat from rebonding opened them up. Orange for the "moisture", to add moisture to the heated up hair.

Finally I'm done with my hair. For four long hours. The hubby and fil was already outside when I was done. I guess they were already bored with the place. I had my lunch at Causeway Bay Hong Kong Cafe.

The hubby's Macau Pork Bun. So nice of him to accompany me eat when he is already very full from his lunch and break. Haha..

I did not managed to walk in KSL City Mall, as both the men were bored of the place. Hence I suggested we head back to City Square, take a walk and we can head back home after that. My, City Square JB changed alot. Bought some snacks and we were on our way back. Many others were on their way back to Singapore too. Pretty long queue at the Malaysia Immigration, and an even longer queue at the Malaysia bus station. The queue reaches the stairs down from the Immigration.

I wonder when would be my next overseas trip. Haha..

PUB Family Day

Today is PUB Family Day and it was held at Sentosa. My sister invited us to join them in a day of fun and charity. She is in the committee for the Charity Run, and to show our support, my dad, mum, the hubby and I participated in the Charity Leisure Walk.

We reached around 7.30am and the day was kicked off with a warm up session. Next, the Charity relay race was on. My family and I were by the side, cheering them on, though we had no idea who was who. Neither do we know who won. Haha.. Some of the teams were more united as the team members ran alongside the current runner, cheering on loudly.

Finally it was our turn. The Charity Leisure Walk. We thought it was a jog, so my family jogged. Haha.. Not as many people signed up for this event compared to the relay run. A little disorganised, but it was still a successful event done by my sister and the committee. Great job.

We spent the rest of the day eating the icecream provided, went for a lucky spin (I wasn't too lucky >.< ), laughing and clapping along the stage games for the kids and adults. The mcee is a funny guy and he's good at getting the crowd to the right atmosphere.

One downside of the event, many were too anxious to get the lunch provided. The lunch is to be issued only at 10.45am. And there is already a long queue at 9.30am. The lunch is already pre allocated, so why not enjoy yourself at the games (there were archery games, the hamster ball thing, the gladiator games and more), and not stand under the hot hot sun for more than one hour? Got a guy even shouted and complained about queuing in the sun. Haha.. We were enjoying our ice cream in the shade when that happened.

The family day included tickets to the SEA Aquarium at RWS, but I was too tired from being in the sun, and worried that it's the same for my dad, and the hubby was needed elsewhere in the afternoon, so I had suggested that we arranged another day to visit the Aquarium since the tickets were valid till the end of the year. And to go with my brother and sister too, making it a whole family event. I think I kind of disappointed my mum by suggesting it. Sorry Mummy T.T we will go there next month.

The lucky draw prizes. Mummy spun a Namecard Holder, while I spun a pack of Ang Bao packs.

Our souvenirs for participating in the Charity Run. Cute plushies.

R.I.P Peter Rabbit

GF's pet rabbit, Peter, passed away last night. His small little body was unable to handle the anesthetic given for the treatment for his teeth problems.

The photos I have were from 2010 when Peter rabbit was still young, who was recently bought home. I still remember how his name came about. Peter rabbit always like to hop to where my GF's butt was. So she called him "屁的" and somehow evolved to Peter.

Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD)

The hubby had been having pains at the jaw area. And my diagnosis is that he yawned too widely. I do not like the way he yawn, as whenever he yawn, there will be a cracking sound. Being the naggy me, I had always nagged him to yawn "smaller".

At a point, the pain was too much for him. Eating and talking became a problem. So, we went to the dentist at the hospital. The dentist diagnosed that he had Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). Took an xray, and luckily it was not too serious. The dentist had him take some medication, and if the pain persist, the hubby has to return for another visit.

Here's what a TMD is:

Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD)

Source: http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/temporomandibular-disorders

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) occur as a result of problems with the jaw, jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw. These disorders are often incorrectly called TMJ, which stands for temporomandibular joint. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the temporal bone of the skull, which is immediately in front of the ear on each side of your head. The joints are flexible, allowing the jaw to move smoothly up and down and side to side and enabling you to talk, chew, and yawn. Muscles attached to and surrounding the jaw joint control the position and movement of the jaw.

The cause of TMD is not clear, but dentists believe that symptoms arise from problems with the muscles of the jaw or with the parts of the joint itself. Injury to the jaw, temporomandibular joint, or muscles of the head and neck – such as from a heavy blow or whiplash – can cause TMD. Other possible causes include:
  • Grinding or clenching the teeth, which puts a lot of pressure on the TMJ
  • Dislocation of the soft cushion or disc between the ball and socket
  • Presence of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in the TMJ
  • Stress, which can cause a person to tighten facial and jaw muscles or clench the teeth

People with TMD can experience severe pain and discomfort that can be temporary or last for many years. More women than men experience TMD, and TMD is seen most commonly in people between the ages of 20 and 40. Common symptoms of TMD include:
  • Pain or tenderness in the face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders, and in or around the ear when you chew, speak, or open your mouth wide
  • Limited ability to open the mouth very wide
  • Jaws that get "stuck" or "lock" in the open- or closed-mouth position
  • Clicking, popping, or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth (which may or may not be accompanied by pain) or chewing
  • A tired feeling in the face
  • Difficulty chewing or a sudden uncomfortable bite – as if the upper and lower teeth are not fitting together properly
  • Swelling on the side of the face
  • May occur on one or both sides of the face
  • Other common symptoms of TMD include toothaches, headaches, neck aches, dizziness, earaches, hearing problems, upper shoulder pain, and ringing in the ears (tinnitis).

A photo a day : Snacks before dinner

A little sinful snack before dinner. Cheese fries. Looks delicious, but it does not taste that nice.

The Daily Scoop

GF brought me to The Daily Scoop for ice cream and waffle while we discussed a little on her wedding preparations. I never did realise that there is a Clementi Arcade after staying in Clementi for more than 20 years. A Cold Storage outlet is there too.

We had double scoop icecream on waffle at $9.60. A scoop of Lychee Martini and a scoop of Kooki Monster. Delicious. But it wasn't satisfying enough even though the scoops are pretty big. Greedy me. Haha...

Their card is pretty cute. Thick card, good quality too.

Good luck

Today, is a pretty unlucky day. First me, then it was the hubby's turn. It's a foggy road for me. Praying hard it won't be the same for the hubby. Praying real hard.

I can't help but feel lousy about everything.

Design : Logo + Namecard for AT Commodities

Got an assignment from a friend's recommendation. The requirement was to design a logo and a namecard for AT Commodities, a company that does trading from rice, cement, coffee, oil, tyres, stones and more. After a few rounds of revision, the client picked my 2nd logo design.

My initial idea to was use blue and orange. Blue represents the company trade in solid and fundamental items like cement and stones while orange represents trading items like coffee and rice, things that people use and consume in daily lives. But the client prefer not to use orange, hence the purple in the final logo design.

The arrows on the logo icon represent bringing trade commodities to customers from all areas or directions, with the circle being a point where customers are. Futura Bold Condensed is used as the font type as the font family Futura has an appearance of efficiency and forwardness.

Happy with my completed work. Hopefully the client is too. It was nice working with them as the client always provides me with constructive feedback, enabling to project to complete with efficiency.

Marvel's Thor: The Dark World

For the second part of our anniversary date, hubby and I went for a movie. We caught Thor: The Dark World. I like the movie. There are funny scenes and tear evoking scenes. Remember to stay for a short clip after the movie.

The following contain spoilers.
I didn't know Thor's mother can fight. And she fight so well, so suave. I like. But sadly she died. The scene of the funeral process, the lights, the fire arrows, it was a pretty scene, very emotional, tear evoking. I love the funny bits by Loki while on their way out of Asgard to Malekith's world. And I finally understood the ending of the movie, while on our way home. Thor, Odin and Loki. Hmms... Quoted from Wikipedia: "In Asgard, Thor declines Odin's offer to take the throne and tells Odin of Loki's sacrifice. As Thor leaves, the image of Odin reverts to the true form of shapeshifter Loki, who, disguised earlier as a warrior, has usurped the throne."

In a mid-credits scene, Volstagg and Sif visit the Collector and entrust to his care the Aether, commenting that, with the Tesseract already in Asgard, having two Infinity Stones so close together would be dangerous. As they leave, the Collector remarks, "One down, five to go." (Quoted from Wikipedia)

The Line Buffet at Shangri-La Hotel

It's our anniversary and the hubby is treating us to a pretty high end buffet lunch at The Line, located in the Shangri-La Hotel. I had heard excellent reviews from friends about this place. And the prices is not cheap too. The lunch is still affordable for us and there's a 15% discount for reservations made online.

The hotel is located a little off the way. We took a train, changed to a bus and walked 10-15 minutes to get to the hotel. We reached 10 minutes before 12. Buffet lunch starts only at 12 noon, but we were welcomed and showed to our seats.

The restaurant is brightly lit, surrounded by glass panels, allowing natural light to shine into the restaurant. A very modern looking place, with white and orange as its main colour theme. Chefs at each section were busy preparing for the upcoming lunch crowd. The place was pretty empty but was quickly filled up after 12noon.

We started with the cold food. Prawns, oysters and crabs. And I played with the food.

No feel for the crab and osyter, but I love the prawns. Fresh.

This is the ever busy station. Everyone loves seafood. The chefs were busy preparing the oysters. Demand over supply with the non-stop queue.

Next, Sashimi. We didn't really take any sushi. Buffet, eat less carbo. A little disappointing for me.

Tempura. No feel.

Pretty salad bar.

Western station. We tried the pizza. Thin crust.

Dim Sum. I expected the shrimp dumplings to have a bigger prawn in it.

The tea and coffee counter. I ordered a Teh Tarik. A little diluted.

Indian Section. There's egg and plain prata. Quite a hot favourite, as the pratas were emptied quite quickly.. I went at least 4 times just to take a photo.

Our indian food selection.

At the far corner, there's a chicken rice stall and a noodles stall. I ordered a Laksa. Yum yum.

Desserts bar. There were many pretty cakes to choose from.

And I believe, I chose too much. We were struggling to finish what I took. Haha...

Despite being so full, I had to have my icecream. The hubby got us mango and yam. There's no chocolate. Healthier fruit flavours.

To be honest, we were a little disappointed. Maybe we had set our expectations a little too high. The service crew were all very friendly, attentive and polite. Our total bill came up to $98, with a 15% discount from making our reservations online. And poor hubby was busy visiting the gents during the movie after our lunch. I wonder why.....

Oh.. The waiter offered us a carpark coupon, but we did not drive there. I did not know parking is complimentary for diners. Now I know...

Here are the pricing for the restaurant.
