Happy Father's Day

Today is Father's Day. Fathers are as important and amazing figures as Mothers. Wishing all Fathers a wonderful day with their beloved family members.

Morning was spent celebrating the day with the FIL. Dim Sum for breakfast at Chinatown. Food was so-so. But luckily we were there a wee bit earlier as parking was available and so were the seats. Any later, it will be waiting and waiting.

I feel a little bad that we did not managed to celebrate Father's Day with Daddy since any food is just repulsive to him now and all he needs is P relievers. We just have to make it a date another day for a good meal. Hopefully it's real soon.

Review on Beaute Forest Q10 & Silk Protein Fine Fairness Mask - $10.90/box (6 sheets/box)
The Beaute Forest Q10 & Silk Protein Fine Fairness Mask is one of my most needed masks from the series of Beaute Forest Masks. My complexion is never in the "good" range, based on so many beauticians. As I grow older, the need to make my skin better is almost twice or even thrice the effort, having not not just focus on acne and pore problems but also the need to focus on my aging skin. And the Beaute Forest Q10 & Silk Protein Fine Fairness Mask focuses on getting a firmer and tighter skin to combat this natural sign of aging.

After cleaning up my face as usual, I placed the Beaute Forest Q10 & Silk Protein Fine Fairness Mask on my face. The scent of the mask is very nice when opening up the packaging. The piece of mask is supported with a thin plastic to aid easy application on the face.

Although the directions is to place the mask for 10-15 minutes, the mask is so moist with the nourishing essence that after 20 minutes, the mask is still moist. I love how the mask feels after application. It does not make my face sticky and it feels like my face has absorbed in all the nourishment, as my face feels soft, moisturised and looks lighter than before application.

Definitely a must try mask, especially with the cute packaging and its benefits.

Growing up

As we progress and grow older, we obtained more roles in life. Things are not as simple as it used to be. No longer the innocent and naive child, who only cares about when is the next snack/meal time or play time.

To excel in all the roles, it seems highly impossible. Concentrating on one role may lead to neglecting the other equally important roles.

I feel that I failed in being a good wife, a good daughter, a good sister and even a good human (to the silly boy).

Get well soon

It has been a very long week. For the past one week, I have been going to the hospital... Sighs... Just hope that things work out well. All of us are worried and tired. At the current pace, not too sure when this thing will be finally over. Speedy recovery. *hugs*

At the same time, a day after hospitalisation, Latte went for his sterilisation. He is recovering well and eating well, but is still stuck to his Cone. The silly boy keep running into walls, banging his cone into my legs, forgetting to cater more space for his cone. Just another week with the cone and he will be free.

Homecook Hokkien Prawn Mee

After so many months of feeling sick around food, I have decided that I should be a good wife to start cooking homecook meals for the hubby. Today we had Hokkien Prawn Mee. First attempt. Not very successful, but edible. Haha..

Here's the recipe that I followed:
http://www.recipesaresimple.com/hokkien-mee-fried-prawns-noodle-singapore/

The recipe serves four, so I cut most of the ingredients in half. I'm not confident in handling octopus, so I left that out. Then for the pork belly, sadly, I could not find in NTUC. Here's the modified list of ingredients and steps.

Ingredients
  • 150 gms Laksa Noodles
  • 100 gms Hokkien Noodles
  • 8 prawns
  • 1 piece fish cake, sliced thinly
  • 1 Tbsp garlic, minced to a paste
  • 1 Tbsp of chopped garlic
  • a few drops of Asian Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 2 Eggs, beaten with a little salt and pepper
  • ½ cube Chicken Couillon Cube (Knorr)
  • 2 cups Water
  • calamansi lime and chili sambal  to serve – if desired

Steps
  1. Clean and devein the prawns. Rinse and drain. (Reserve the shells)
  2. Marinate the prawns in the garlic and sesame oil .
  3. Soak the noodles in hot water to soften for 10 minutes. Drain.
  4. In a medium sized sauce pan, heat oil. Add the reserved prawn shells and stir-fry well till nice and pink  and they emit a lovely aroma.
  5. Add the Water and Stock.
  6. Bring to a boil on high heat. Then turn down the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. In a large wok, heat 1 Tbsp oil.
  8. Add the marinated prawns when the wok is very hot and stir fry continuously, not allowing the prawns to stick to the wok. Stir fry till the prawns are tender.
  9. Remove to a plate.
  10. In the remaining oil in the wok, add the beaten eggs and scramble lightly. Move to the side of the wok add oil and chopped garlic to the center of the wok. Allow to turn light golden then add the drained noodles.
  11. Toss and fry the noodles continuously on high heat, coating the noodles thoroughly with the eggs and oil.
  12. Add in the fishcake.
  13. Add 1 large ladle of the stock (without the shells) and stir cook the noodles till the stock evaporates.
  14. Now add up to 1 cup of the stock into the wok and stir. Taste for saltiness and add salt if needed.
  15. Cover the wok with a lid and cook on medium low heat for 5 – 7 minutes, Allowing the noodles to steam in the prawns essence.
  16. Serve with as much more stock as you like, topped lime and chili sambal to use as desired.

The hubby thinks it's not too bad, just that the dish is a little short on ingredients. If only there's pork belly.

Dumpling Festival

Today is the Chinese festival, Dragon Boat Festival / Dumpling Festival / 端午节. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar.

On this day, Chinese in Singapore would be eating rice dumplings with the family. There are many kinds of rice dumplings to choose from. My favourite rice dumpling would be the most common one, the Hokkien Rice Dumpling / Ba Zhang / 肉粽. This rice dumpling is made of glutinous rice with mushroom, chestnut and pork belly, wrapped in bamboo leaves.

A popular belief amongst the Chinese of eating rice dumpling involved commemorating the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period. Known for his patriotism, Qu Yuan tried unsuccessfully to warn his king and countrymen against the expansionism of their Qin neighbors. When the Qin general Bai Qi took Yingdu, the Chu capital, in 278 BC, Qu Yuan's grief was so intense that he drowned himself in the Miluo river after penning the Lament for Ying. According to legend, packets of rice were thrown into the river to prevent the fish from eating the poet's body [From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zongzi]

Hopefully I will have the enthusiasm to make my own dumplings next year. Making rice dumplings is a very tedious (and oily) process.

50% Completion

Yippie! We are at the halfway mark. Halfway more to go! It is so exciting. Although it has been a pretty tough process, we still can't wait for project completion.
